The title came from the first George Bush in a promise during his presidency campaign in 1988: “read my lips – no new taxes!”  I recorded it at Radio 2xx – part of the campaign against ‘Operation Desert Storm’, the American invasion of Iraq in 1991.  

 

Somehow it reached and was played on an American forces base radio station in Germany. They were already playing a rap against going to war with Iraq that they had recorded - ‘Just Say No!’. They sent it to 2xx so it was heard many times in Canberra. You can listen to this track on the link below.
