Tanya introduces a recording of a recent Canberra public meeting to defend the unions with John Cummins (Vic Builders Labourers’ Federation), Irene Bolger (Vic Royal Australian Nursing Federation), Charles McDonald (Secretary ACT Trades and Labour Council), Ted Forbes (Miscellaneous Workers Union, incoming President of the ACT Trades and Labour Council)

  5. John Cummins tells of the events of 13 October 1987, when Victoria Police raided and seized property from the Melbourne office of the Builders Labourers Federation at the order of the Cain (Labor) government.

  7. John Cummins continued, on the Order in Council which retrospectively gave legal cover to minister Steve Crabb for the raid on the BLF. Threat of this legal precedent spreading to other unions.

  9. John Cummins continued on the powers of Dr Ian Sharpe, custodian of the assets of the BLF. Also on discussion with Clarrie O’Shea. Dr Sharpe is the person who visited the Tramways Union to seize union assets including office furniture prior to the 1969 jailing of O’Shea, in the leadup to the O’Shea strike of 1969. Problems for authorities in deregistration legislation. This is a trial run for destroying any other union.
