Theme – Redgum – Raggin’
-
Max Lane on the Broad Left conference held over Easter. 1,500 people. Opening plenary featured Labor minister Brian Howe talking about how we had to be patient with the Labor govt. A lot of discontent with this, including interest in the BLF. More activity and discussion to come.
-
Ry Cooder – How Can a Poor Man Face Such Times and Live
-
Nick Harris, assistant secretary of Builders Labourers’ Federation ACT, on the Arbitration Commission decision to deregister the BLF. Legislation not needed but will be introduced by Labor anyway to head off a High Court challenge, to legalise the scabbing of other unions, and also to enable punitive fines against anyone who tries to obstruct the deregistration. Bosses eg at the new parliament house site saying BLF members must join the BWIU or FEDFA or be sacked. Media lies re “thuggery”.
