Common Cause: 2004, February 27

This edition of Common Cause features an interview with Amer Abdelhadi, manager of Radio Tariq Al Mahabbeh (TMFM 97.7) in Nablus, in the occupied West Bank. Radio 2XX in Canberra ran a fundraiser to help TMFM stay on the air despite the siege and curfew imposed by the Israeli army on Nablus during the Second Intifada. There’s a link to some of the endorsements and other promo material for this fundraiser below.

Interview with Amer Abdelhadi, manager of Radio Tariq Al Mahabbeh (TMFM) in Nablus:

  • Military operations by the Israeli army, in preparation for construction of a new section of the Apartheid Wall near Ramallah.

  • Israeli Army operation against banks in Nablus.

  • “For the past three years we have lived under siege”. Some food and medicine allowed in but many other goods routinely stopped. Now almost 700 days under siege. Curfews can go for weeks or months, with only a few hours here and there to get essential supplies.

  • Discusses the work of Radio Tariq Al Mahabbeh despite repeated attacks from the Israeli army. The radio station has been operating for seven years, keeping people informed and in touch with each other to help survive the occupation.
